National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Strategies and Compliance

Permitting

Our extensive experience obtaining project permits for a wide range of clients has honed our ability to react quickly to your permitting needs, and ensures appropriate and affordable permit terms and mitigation measures.  SolsticeAK has worked with clients to obtain permits for alternative energy, marine infrastructure, water and wastewater, transportation, and other projects throughout the state.

Planning

SolsticeAK helps communities and tribes plan for prosperous futures and ensure a clean and safe environment for the next generation. Balancing environmental protections, cultural values, and economic development, we bring together community, industry, and regulatory agencies to create practical plans and assist you throughout the planning process.

Public Involvement

SolsticeAK facilitates meaningful dialogue between a well-informed population and municipalities, non-profits, businesses, and other organizations. We understand the need to share important information prior to and throughout community action, and have successfully implemented this exchange in rural villages as well as urban centers. Some of our public involvement work has included outreach in Bethel, including public meetings, to obtain approvals for Alaska Village Electric Cooperative’s wind turbine; meetings in Mountain Village to gather input on a new road project; and outreach in Kobuk, Noatak, and Shungnak to develop energy priorities.

Grants

Since 2008, we have helped secure funding for projects ranging from small harbor improvements to hydroelectric energy facility design. We've acquired grants in small remote rural communities, like St. Mary’s, King Cove, Shungnak, and Mekoryuk; mid-size towns like Seward, Bethel, and Whittier; and large areas, like the Mat-Su. We help clients prepare narratives and navigate program requirements, including drafting resolutions, acquiring letters of support, coordinating multiple governments into a consortium or joint venture for the purpose an application, and offer support on previously denied applications. We have helped acquire funding for important community infrastructure like wind turbines, battery energy storage systems, and bulk fuel upgrades; new dock construction and fishing infrastructure like mobile boat hoists; road construction and resurfacing; river erosion control; and city employee training and libraries.
