Ward Cove Cruise
Ship Dock

Marine Environment

In response to an economic shift towards tourism in Ward Cove, Ketchikan, SolsticeAK worked with Power Systems & Supplies of Alaska on their Cruise Ship Dock project. SolsticeAK identified marine mammals and protected birds that may occur in the project area, and ensured project compliance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).

Providence Drive Culvert Replacement

Permitting

SolsticeAK obtained a variety of permits from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Alaska Department of Natural Resources for the Municipality of Anchorage’s Culvert Replacement project on Providence Drive. This project allowed for a permanent solution to failing existing culverts, protecting existing infrastructure and local waterways from Erosion and roadway damage.

City of Seward Snow River Erosion Protection Project

Grants

The City of Seward requested Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) technical assistance to address a transmission line in danger of failing. The transmission line, which is solely responsible for transporting power into the Seward area, was threatened by the erosion of a channel of Snow River, requiring a timely and efficient response. SolsticeAK successfully assisted with the grant writing process to obtain these funds, allowing for the needed repairs to the transmission line.

Atka Comprehensive Plan

Planning

SolsticeAK developed a comprehensive plan for the City of Atka based on the community’s values and vision. We gathered community input through public meetings, interviews, and a public survey to develop a plan that reflects the City’s experiences and sets goals and priorities for its future. Topics covered in the plan include education, healthcare, preservation of culture, economic development, and more.

Bethel Wind Turbine

Public Involvement

SolsticeAK effectively facilitated public involvement for the Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) wind turbine project in Bethel, Alaska. We hosted public meetings, collected community input, created outreach materials, and reported on our findings in order for AVEC to effectively use the input received.
